“Designing land use options and policies. Fostering co-operation between Kasparov and Deep Blue?” was the title of a paper of by Rossing and colleagues in 1999. The second part of the title referred to a match between the world champion chess and a famous chess computer at the time. In a later section of the paper (p. 51), the authors elaborate “The debate on the usefulness of computer techniques in areas where the experienced human mind serves perfectly well, aided by keen observation, is not exclusive to the issue of land use design...
